Open Airways for Schools
Open Airways for Schools (OAS) teaches children how to manage their asthma. Generally held in schools during school hours, the program utilizes storytelling, role-playing and group activities to teach children between the ages of 8 to 11 years.
OAS was developed by Columbia University’s College of Physicians and Surgeons and is approved by the National Association of School Nurses. Program evaluation has concluded that OAS improves both the children’s and the parents’ asthma management behaviors.
